Commissioned by Mills College and dedicated to Cathy Berberian. A collection of complex settings of folk songs from various languages and cultures. The ten songs are scored for a mixed ensemble of flute, clarinet, viola, cello, harp and 2 percussionists.
Original version for voice and seven instruments is dated 1964. With preface by Berno Odo Polzer and Marie-Therese Rudolph. Duration: 23 minutes.
Gubisch performs folk song settings by Falla, Berio, Granados, Brahms, and Obradors. With pianist Alain Altinoglu.
This work was commissioned by Mills College, and sets folk songs from several areas around North America and Europe. The work was written for Cathy Berberian. With a preface by Berio in Italian, German, English and French.
