This piece was actually composed for Stan Getz at the invitation of John Chowning. Getz premiered the work at Stanford University. The term variations refers not to traditional ideas but to the role of improvisation in the music. With program and performance notes. CD available separately.

While the first two movements of this short piece are lyric and mostly legato, the final movement is much more energetic and articulated. Each movement has its challenges, but none are overly difficult.
