Hailstork studied with, among others, David Diamond, H. Owen Reed and Nadia Boulanger. He was awarded the Ernest Bloch Award for Choral Composition in 1972. His orchestral compositions have been performed and recorded by the Chicago Symph. Orch., the Detroit Symphony and the Baltimore Symphony.
